One of my favorite assignments during undergrad was, to design an object that promoted ourselves as designers. Our professor showed us examples of previous works done by students and the bar was set HIGH. A student used a landline handheld phone for their promo and designed the packaging with witty text for future employers to call.
When I began to brainstorm, I knew I wanted my object to be useful because the last thing I wanted was my promo to be in the trash. Since I love my Western Digital hard drive, I thought it would be the perfect idea. With an external hard drive, they 're easy to carry, back up important files, and store large amounts of digital information. To wrap up my idea, I went with a caution theme because many designers need a friendly reminder to back up our files in case of corruption.

Two separate designs are used to cover each side of the package. An illustration of 'Mayhem', the character Allstate insurance uses for ad campaigns, canvases the top of the box. On the bottom of the package, a yield concept with my logo and website + email information are added for contact and promo purposes. The design for the hard drive itself, features the witty saying, "Back that .*** Up", that pays homage to artists, Cash Money, and the reminder to back up .eps, .svg, etc. files.
